To whom it may concern,

The proposed price increase of .COM domain names is TOTALLY unjustified.
It only benefits ICANN (to the tune of $20M) and Verisign, which is already the most profitable company on this planet, would make hundreds of millions in additional profit .
Two companies want to levy a new tax on 146 million registrants and that is unacceptable.

The cost of registering a .COM domain name should go WAY DOWN not up !
With the cost of technolgy going down and economies of scale, the real cost to Verisign is close to $2 or even less.
At $4 per year, Verisign would still make a very healthy profit.
In fact, a lot of other registry operators would kill to operate the .COM registry at that price, some would go even lower.

ICANN’s duty is to act in the public interest, not in its own interest , nor in the interest of Verisign.
ICANN’s duty is to promote competition so ICANN must put the .COM contract for bid since currently there is no competition at all with Verisign enjoying a monopoly forever.

.COM contract should be put for rebid every 5 year.
That would be a healthy way of managing a public resource.
Verisign is a contractor chosen by ICANN to manage the .COM registry, VERISIGN is not the owner of the .COM registry, as such Verisign can’t dictate the price, only ICANN can.

Special comment to ICANN’s Ombudsman : this a public comment by a netizen in opposition of the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement
THIS IS NOT A SPAM !
