From what I understand, it would give verisign the power to adjust prices...at will. While this may have some advantages, its putting SMEs at great disadvantage.

In Africa, It's hard enough that so many factors (ranging from government policies to structural amenities) are militating SME growth or scaling but now add a sudden probable change to price of .com domains.
