Given that ICANN holds a virtual monopoly on the .COM top level domain, it is anticompetitive to simply hike the price with no competition or other open-market influence.

I am strongly against it until the monopoly is busted and natural market forces can establish prices, or the organization is subjected to controls that are more in the public interest, like a public utility.
