[Comments-com-amendment-3-03jan20] Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement
I am a domainer, investing in domain names as a business. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices, and increases benefit only Verisign. Verisign is already a highly-profitable company. There is no reasonable explanation to enrich them further at the expense of domain registrars and registrants. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. If the .COM registry management contract were put up for competitive bidding, a much lower price could be attained, which would truly be in the public interest. Instead, we have an anti-competitive system set up to benefit only Verisign and ICANN. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Bill Patterson Richardson, Texas United States ᐧ
