I oppose increases in .com registration fees without additional free market competition. If fee increases are warranted, the market should decide, not a regulatory body. However, the system as it stands takes away useful market signals as well as competitor pressures. Therefore, I see no clear reason for fee increases. Surely Verisign is not arguing that its cost of doing business has increased; nearly the entire industry is experiencing decreases in cost of business. Further, it is highly unlikely that there is any real new value or new problems that Verisign can solve for users, again leading to no reason for increased fees. If there is a clear value proposition for these increases, please make it public.
