Dear Tanzanica,

Is it possible to edit my comment and provide more context?  I do not see this is possible.  If so, can I substitute this instead

Many thanks,

Best,

Judith

I appreciate the opportunity to comment on the proposed dates for the ICANN Public Meetings 2024-2028 and the revised dates for Public Meetings in 2022.  I thank ICANN for noting some of the conflicts for the proposed dates but I do not understand why the October meetings are happening in the middle of the month of October, instead of the usual time which is the last week in October, first week in November. This time, late October/early November is usually a good time free of conflicts and moving it up the middle of October often runs into conflicts. Also since these dates have not been finalized it is fairly easy to move them to avoid conflicts.  For the meetings that conflict with the Jewish Holiday of Sukkot and its extensions which are Shemini Atzeret (eighth day of Solemn assembly/Simchat Torah) what is most problematic besides meeting on a holiday is that at the end of each of the three main holidays of Passover, Sukkot and Shavuot (festival of weeks) it is customary to offer a memorial prayer for close relatives that have passed away as well as for people killed in wars and in the holocaust in the synagogue and as such is a very solemn day and so having a conflict with these days is very difficult. This custom began in the middle ages so is not a new custom. Many people who are not religious at all come to synagogue for these days to honor and memorialize their close relatives, family members and people they knew who lost their lives in wars or in the holocaust so putting the meeting during these times and having people make difficult choices is definitely not inclusive and is problematic.

ICANN has been striving to be more inclusive in its practices in an effort to engage a more diverse number of volunteers to help implement ICANN’s goals and objectives in line with that it needs to be more aware of important holidays and religious dates of the volunteers who work countless hours to improve ICANN’s multistakeholder advisory work. By avoiding these dates as much as possible it is showing all volunteers that it understands their concerns and does its best to avoid conflicts.

For the date for the meeting the AGM in Oct 2022. If we could move the AGM to start on October 20 or later that would be perfect. Holiday ends the night of October 18 and so people could travel on Oct. 19 to be in time for the meeting.

2) For 2024.  If we move the AGM by one week we could avoid conflicting with any Jewish Holidays or the EURO IX Forum So if start the AGM on October 27 that would be the best and avoid any conflicts. People who are attending the IETF could then leave straight from the ICANN meeting. Since the locations have not been chosen yet it should be easy to do

3) 2027--Again with the AGM why cannot we move it the week afterwards and begin it the week of October 26 and this way it avoid the Jewish holidays completely. and it were moved by two weeks it would avoid this holiday all together. Yes we do know there is only 1 day before the IETF meeting is starting but people who are attending the IETF could then leave straight from the ICANN meeting.

Thanks so much. Hopefully we can make these changes and avoid all conflicts with Jewish Holidays

Best,

Judith Hellerstein

Dear All,

I am submitting three comments

For the date for the meeting The AGM in Oct 2022. If we could move the AGM to start on October 20 that would be perfect.

Since the locations have not been chosen yet it should be easy to do

3) 2027--Again with the AGM why cannot we move it the week afterwards and begin it the week of October 26 and this way it avoid the Jewish holidays completely and also Ramadan which is earlier that year

Thanks so much. Hopefully we can make these changes and avoid all conflicts with Jewish Holiday

Best,

Judith Hellerstein
