Please don’t increase domain registration prices. Domain names are the last bastion of entrepreneurship. If acquiring a domain name becomes an expensive proposition, who knows what good, new, life-changing idea may never see the light of day? Give good value for services rendered, and don’t become a usurper “because you can”. The entrepreneur needs, demands, an affordable entry into business. A domain name is that good start. I see the continuing raise of domain pricing extremely unfair in two respects: 1. Nearly all domain registrations occur without human intervention. There is no further labor charge to purchase a domain name. 2. As domain sales (quantities sold) continue to increase with no end in sight and because of #1 above, the profits will only continue to grow. Much like the "mass production" in the past helped to reduce pricing of manufactured goods, the same should be happening in the domain world. Please keep the greed in check. Thank you! Allowing an uncapped increase in domain price will allow the few markets that control these domains to widely spike prices beyond reasonable increases. This will inevitably make renewals, or even new purchases, harder for people to justify and could lead to a decrease in overall usage. Please keep the 10% annual cap. Adam

The price of buying *some* top level domains has skyrocketed exponentially. In most businesses, 3-5% is a reasonable amount to raise prices each year. How is it that ICANN needs to raise prices by more than 10% each year??? It's ridiculous and preposterous. I do not support the proposed price changes. As the owner of a .info domain, I am concerned that having unlimited price increases will have an adverse effect on our community. Many of us are individuals with non profit intentions and this would make us vulnerable. Registrants of legacy TLDs should have stable pricing with the ability to predict costs, price increases with no maximums are a threat to stability and business continuity for small businesses or individuals.

I'm concerned, It is unnecessary to increase prices of domain name registration. You haven't even PROVEN a need to do so and people close to the issue have confirmed that ICAAN makes too much money already. If you want to do something meaningful, stop registrars from having the ability to purchase domain names to resell. GoDaddy for example purchases the domains you search for if you don't immediately buy them. When you revisit their site hours later because you decided to buy it, GoDaddy now owns it and you have to pay a premium for it. This is a completely unethical practice and if ICAAN has any ethics at all, and I seriously doubt they do, they would put an end to registrars having more than one domain only to operate from. NO MORE THAN ONE DOMAIN PER REGISTRAR! Do something meaningful and leave domain prices alone forever. There also needs to be an end to domain repurchasing companies that buy expiring domains. It completely eliminates the average consumer from being able to acquire an expired domain unless you pay these asshats to acquire an expired domain. Thank you for the opportunity to submit a comment. I am a domain name registrant. Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN is supposed to represent a "bottom up, consensus-driven multistakeholder model". ICANN should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is just a handout to business at the expense of registrants’ rights and protections. Where are the protections for the millions of domain registrants that this could effect in a negative way? These changes would give way too much power to the registry. This is not acceptable for a "public benefit" organization that exists to represent many stakeholders. Best Regards, Billy Liu

Dear ICANN, Removing price caps is not fair to .info domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .info domain names.
