We understand that you are considering removing price caps for .info domains through your contracted party. If unwise prices rises of domains were to occur because of this, it will be the start of the dumbing down of the marvelous resource that the internet is to the US and the world. Further, there’s a good chance it will simply drive innovation out of the .info sector and drive people away from seeking information. I write to oppose the removal of price caps on any of the “legacy” TLDs as doing so will only create a free-for-all on limitless price increases across the well-established board. The new GTLDs are already accepted as alternative options with price expectations that vary greatly based on the registry; however, current registrants of older well established extensions are expected to maintain some level of stability. These legacy domain names, some of which have been registered for many years, are unlike the new mess being created and owners of these legacy names have a reasonable expectation of affordability and stability. The old manta goes ‘if it is not broken, you do not try and fix it.’ The vast majority of domain owners will remain unaffected so long as the fluctuating and exorbitant prices remain in the newer name space; there will be plenty of years ahead for ICANN to benefit from those while allowing stability within the legacy name space. Leave well enough alone and move forward without effecting millions and millions of current and well established registrants who expect their domain expenses to remain reasonable, affordable and stable. Hi there - The fact that there can only be 1 entity that runs a domain suffix means there is zero competition in that space. That's non-competitive and inherently unfair. If you extend the contract for .info domains, please cap increases in prices to LESS than 5% per year. That's more than the US inflation rate, and more than fair (esp. given that technical innovations always drive per unit price DOWN, not up). Thank you. Regards, Pawan.

Dear Sir/Ms., I am concerned about your proposal of changes to the agreement between yourself and the registrar for the .info, top level domain. I am a private citizen, who has bought a domain name that includes the TLD, .info. I have attempted to review the ICANN proposal and the areas outlined with regard to .info TLD; I am disappointed to find that even the summary is abstruse, preventing full comprehension of the proposal. As this is the case, I, rightly, or wrongly, draw the conclusion that ICANN is about to introduce the laissez faire doctrine to an area of the internet that up to this point, enjoys historical protection from this type of market force. To deregulate pricing of gTLDs is to place severe restrictions on access to the internet of organisations that would provide valuable information for public consumption. Such a move may also cause genuine information services that utilise the .info TLD to cease providing their services, owing to exorbitant pricing. I am somewhat aware that measures are being introduced to increase security and data protection of human persons, with regard to registries and registrars. I accept that there is a cost for this necessary provision, but viewing the proposal, I did not find any information, or more probable, could not identify, where it is explicitly stated that the freedom of the Public Interest Registry to set its own pricing tariffs is as a result of the provision of cyber-security and data protection. I wholly disagree with the proposal, to the extent that I understand it. I believe that permitting the Public Interest Registry to set its own pricing tariffs would be a retrograde step that ultimately, benefits very few. I, therefore, urge you to reconsider introducing the proposal upon renewal of the agreement between ICANN and Afilias.
