I am a domain name registrant. Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN is supposed to represent a "bottom up, consensus-driven multistakeholder model". ICANN should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is just a handout to business at the expense of registrants’ rights and protections. Where are the protections for the millions of domain registrants that this could effect in a negative way? These changes would give way too much power to the registry. This is not acceptable for a "public benefit" organization that exists to represent many stakeholders. Regards, Marina

I oppose the removal of the price increase rate-cap on on .org domains. The pricing on those domains currently enables organizations to use a legitimizing domain at a reasonable price, which can be absolutely vital to smaller organizations. Without hundreds a year to spend on, say, the same address at a .com, the only alternative should .org prices begin to rise more rapidly would be bargain bin domain names that make us look more like spam or a scam than a legitimate website. Please keep the 10% maximum wholesale cost increase cap, and do not allow PIR to increase .org prices at will.

With the increase in technology capabilities and abundance, prices should go down, not up. I do realize that you would not be directly increasing prices by removing the price cap, but that is what you are inviting. The price cap was not training wheels, it is a helmet. Hello, I am writing you this email to Express my displeasure with this agreement. Under this agreement, Non-profits could be forced to pay an exorbitant amount just to renew their .org domain. This is not right. Please do not allow for price caps on .org domains to be removed. That would cause an undue hardship to organizations that are just trying to do good in their communities. And, That would be wrong! There are so many opportunities for domains that prices should be steadily dropping so lifting the price cap makes no sense and it will hurt organizations. It is a lose-lose for everyone except Nuestar! Please rethink your agreement! Thank you, Kelly Laura

I think it's very unfair that ICANN wants to remove price caps of .org registrants like myself. I don't make any money from my domain .org and neither do many non-profits. This could results in millions of dollars of unfair increases. Please keep the price increases as they are now. Non-profits are already struggling and don't need more unnecessary expenses.Thank you, Dobie Dolphin

I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed change to the .org registry change related to price caps. 10% per year is more than fair, and I see no valid reason why domain name pricing should go up substantially over time, especially in the non-profit sphere which .org is supposed to represent. Dear ICANN, It has come to our attention that you are proposing to remove the price cap on .org, .biz and .info domains. As the owner of several .org domain names, I believe this is a bad idea, for a number of reasons. - By removing the cap, you are essentially opening the door to arbitrary price increases. This affects our ability to plan and invest in domain names as the way for our customers and our community to find us, since we have zero reliability on being able to afford them the next year. - In principle, in a free market with abundance of parties, we should see an improvement in technology that would drive the prices down. However, when there are only a limited number of players that actually set those prices (as most "domain registrars" are actually just resellers and do not decide on the prices), this only stagnates the prices. It happens in broadband services, it has been happening in domain names. The prices have been steady for years, and not gone down. - Domain names are a tool that help customers reach us. However, almost since domain names began to be registered, they have become a product on their own. We have domains that are extremely relevant to our business, being locked by a third party that is not using them. If the price cap is removed, domain names will become more of an object of trade, which will block them for longer. Please, reconsider your position, and keep the price cap.
