Please don't let prices get crazy for org domains. Most of them are indeed non-profits. If anything, org domains should be less expensive than com domains. -- Mark

To whom it may concern: I am a .org registrant. ICANN does not seem to recognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support of the US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millions of existing users and the brand new extensions that started off with a new set of rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. They have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. It is not acceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose that they be treated the same. Removing price caps is not fair to .org domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names. Why is ICANN trying to remove price protections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so that they can be overcharged for their domain names?

I oppose the measure to allow unlimited increase in fees. There are may not-for-profit organizations and individual family accounts using this domain. A sharp increase in renewal maybe a hardship for some organizations.

No price limit is absolutely horrible. There is no marginal cost associated with creating new domains, and they have a monopoly on the domains. Removing a price cap won't create innovation nor any incentives to improve service, because there is no service to speak of. This will just be a direct transfer of money and value that will kill websites and make internet a worse place. It will also make the internet more centralized as fewer people will buy those domains.

Please reconsider the elimination of the 10% wholesale price increase cap. Allowing PIR to set their own increases will be detrimental to small organizations who are unable to pay potentially unlimited annual increases. Hi, I’m writing to let you know that I OBJECT to the terms of the new .org registry agreement. My specific concern is related to the removal of price caps for the org TLD, but I would voice the same concerns for other TLD’s as well. Since .org is typically used for non-profits and the like, removing the price cap would be especially detrimental. It’s rare that deregulation of price ceilings leads to lower prices for consumers. If somebody in the chain feels like they are not receiving enough fees, perhaps it’s better if the cap be raised instead of removed entirely. It is important, especially for non-profits using the .org top-level domain, to have access to affordable domain name registration. The Internet is now crucial to providing information and should be treated as such. Imagine interstate highways guarded by toll booths whose operators can increase prices at will. Just as that would restrict the flow of commodities to towns with less resources, market-driven domain registration would restrict small non-profits from having this vital communication tool. An open, equal, and free Internet depends on financial regulation. Just as Net Neutrality is the effort to equalize access, domain price caps equalizes access. Sincerely, Brian Lashbrook

I am very disappointed to learn that ICANN is considering opening .org domains to profiteering and price gouging. I represent a non-profit publishing operation, and I've worked with many non profit organizations over the years. These organizations have built their digital presence on the foundation of a domain name—they will have no choice but to pay whatever ransom it takes to continue using their domains. Have the costs involved in reselling domain names increased substantially? Is there any reason to think these costs will increase in a limitless manner in years to come? ICANN's role should be to ensure that organizations have the tools to thrive on the internet—not to enable commercial greed.
