Please do not remove the cap on pricing of domain names. It will severely cripple in my opinion competition of those who do eCommerce. It also could possibly set up monopolies from people or organizations to hold domains hostage from their respective owners forcing them to either change their domain or pay the exorbitant cost. -- Jasmine Windom

I don’t see any reason why prices should be allowed to increase more than 10% a year !0% (if applied) would already be a huge and unjustified increment to deliver a service that doesn’t have increasing production costs, in fact technology and systems improvement make it very inexpensive to provide. By allowing unlimited price increases on .org renewal fees many websites would literally be on sale to the highest bidder. This could lead to monopolies that allow only a few individuals or companies to own all the .org domains or at least those that would otherwise represent a specific company or group. Also, many .org are non profit and don’t have much money/budget to begin with. Please reconsider this rule. Scott (202)270-8968

To Whom it May Concern, As a developer who encourages nonprofits to set up their websites, i implore you to please not follow through with this fee increase. It has the potential to devastate my clients who work on slim budgets as it is, and will be a problem moving forward as other clients explore their options to create and maintain a web presence. Many of these sights are crucial sources for public information that helps a lot of different people. Please don't make it even more difficult for these organizations to serve their communities. Please do not allow excess I've price hikes in the wholesale domain market. You must recognise that you cannot make direct comparisons between generic TLDs and niche, market specific TLDs, by virtue of volume and specialisation.

To whom it may concern, As I am sure you know, most non-profit organizations operate on an extremely tight budget, often forced to prioritize functional expenses like keeping the lights on, or the website up, over investment in program. Frankly, this can be an incredibly challenging and stressful position to be in. Increased cost for things like domain registration may seem like an insignificant sum of money from the outside, but it is within these razor fine financial edges that most non-profits operate. Every dollar saved on operational costs is a dollar that can go directly toward impacting the respective communities served by individual non-profit organizations. Allowing the rates for domain registration to increase unchecked would not only have huge financial impact on many non-profit organizations, it could also have enormous ramifications for the populations served by those organizations. In the end, the social cost and detrimental impact on programming cannot even be calculated. Please don’t place further burden on the thousands upon thousands of hard-working, magnanimous, compassionate organizations (not to mention the incredibly dedicated and often overwhelmed individual staff) serving millions of people and countless worthy causes by allowing an unchecked increase in operational costs. I strongly oppose the elimination of a price cap for the .org TLD. Removing this cap would create an undue burden on non-profit organizations and individuals who have made significant investments in branding using .org domains. I have heard that ICANN is proposing removing the caps on .org domain names. This could be disastrous for non-profit organisations, who already face an uphill struggle managing costs. Smaller organisations will be particularly hurt as their online visibility will be greatly damaged if they cannot afford to renew their domain names. This could be very damaging for a fair and open web.
