Dear ICANN, i not accept the increase of the price to renew or for a new register of a domain. By only a digital management of this name there is no action need by a person, the computer running alone, the service will be not more. Every year more new domains are register, the the money come alone and think: this process running only digital, computer manage this between. To whom it may concern. The uncapped prices would complete price-out an individual like myself from owning a .org domain and only keep them in the realm of businesses and the wealthy. This is unacceptable. I couldn't possibly keep up with that and ultimately would have to let the domain go. Is this the goal? Peter J. Dalrymple

Please, .org are very important to make change happen in this world. If there’s one domain level that need to stay affordable, that’s the .org Non-profits and charities must limit their spendings, so every dollar spent on this like domain levels are dollar that won’t serve their cause. Hello, My name is Patrick O’Neill. I am a student at Xavier University. I first started creating my websites over eight years ago when I was a freshman in high school. As a student, I thought that websites were unattainable, but that wasn’t the case. I was able to get set up on a .org domain for an affordable price. That low barrier to entry made web design on a “real website” attainable and most importantly accessible to a student on a limited budget. If there are price hikes on .org domains, this means fewer people will have access to top level domains. This makes the internet LESS accessible rather than MORE accessible. There are many reasons why I and so many others love the internet, but least of those reasons is accessibility. If in 2011 when I started web design, I didn’t have an affordable .org domain at my disposal, I’m not sure I would have continued down the path web design. Though, I don’t do web design professionally or regularly now, web designed acted as a creative outlet and form of exploration in the digital world. I ask that you keep the prices of .org websites low so one day a student, just like me, can start their own website. I ask that ICANN reconsider its proposed agreement with PIR to remove the price caps on the .org TLD. No compelling argument is given in the documentation explaining the change as to why removal of the cap is needed. An allowable annual increase of 10% appears to be in the best interest of both the PIR and the end consumer using the .org domains. What costs is PIR incurring that the existing allowable increase isn't acceptable? I wholeheartedly agree with another commenter's statement about the impact this change may have on non-profit organizations. In this case, he speaks to a large organization, but this change would be felt at all levels. "Imagine if RedCross.org did not want to pay the higher renewal costs. PIR (the organization ICANN is considering granting unrestricted pricing ability to) will argue that they can switch their Internet web address to use a different domain extension other than .org. However, this is not realistic or possible. Can you imagine how much time and effort it would take to move away from .org to a new domain name? think about all of the branding and marketing RedCross.org has done over the years. Think about all of the 30,000 employees using a RedCross.org email address. They can not give up or abandon their domain name because of all of that lost email and lost contacts with donors, channel partners, vendors, other organizations, etc." If there are justified increased costs being incurred by PIR, then a proposed increase in the price cap provision is acceptable to maintain a fair agreement between provider and consumer. Hello! I am a .org/.info registrant. Maybe it'd be better to raise the annual price increase from 10% to, say, 20%? I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. Telling the registries that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. You let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. These TLDs have been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year. Dear ICANN, I am a .org registrant. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

I am a .org registrant. I find it shameful that a non-profit organization would contemplate removing the provision in their contracts that limits the amount that an organization can increase the price of .org domains. We have seen time and time again where one assumes this type of language is not needed or companies promise not to abuse such language, only to have the abuse occur regardless. The only ones the removal of this sort of clause helps are large businesses. It could be the case, at least it is in respect to me, that many of these domains would not be able to be renewed if the prices where increased to an unreasonable level. The purpose of including language that limits the wholesale price of .org domains to 10% increase is to have longevity and continuity. How can a small group or small hobby organisation pay for a domain when the cost could, hypothetically, be increased 100 fold overnight? Shameful is the only word I have to describe this profits focused type of agenda from a nonprofit organisation that says it is focused on public benefit. Grady Jensen
