I’m commenting from Nigeria, please the idea of removing the 10% percent cap on domain reg, and letting PIR set whatever prices it wants, will only ruin our effort [the developing part of the world- Africa] to be grow and catch up with the ever changing technology of this world. The cost might be too unbearable that it will foil our plans of running with latest trends in technology, reason been that our economy is as big and strong as the developed world and where you are operating from. Removing the price cap for .org domains is completely unacceptable. Owners of org domains who've been using them for years have literally no way to price shop or control costs, because changing an established company or product domain name is a massively expensive task. Many users of these domains are individuals or small nonprofits who are simply unable to afford increases in the cost of domains and increases cannot be justified given the amount of effort actually required to maintain the registry.

I am a .org registrant. A volunteer for a not-for-profits charity. I am also an individual who supports many Worldwide Charities who use the .org TLD. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants! Please stop the price increase. I want my charitable donations to charities causes and NOT get eaten up by greedy Registrars! I am a domain name registrant. I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. I believe that letting prices on .org domains go unchecked is not a favorable outcome. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. As a supporter of non-profits who use .org domains to help promote the good work they do, such an action could potentially force these organizations to no longer be able to support the cost of owning these domains and have to switch to another. This could ruin years of hard work of making connections under that online identity. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. Domains don’t work on the principle of free market. I think its important to understand that .org, .com and other legacy TLD’s should have a stable pricing. The free market wont work in this case because the general majority of the users of the Internet users do not understand how it works. When your domain has say “RedCross.org” in it people will always go to the .org extension and its impossible to rebrand easily. The domain name is the permanent organization identity on the internet. I can say it with 100% certainty that it will only have a very negative impact on the health of the Internet. There are already too many gtld’s and that make’s it confusing. The legacy ones are the most important ones and will always be. I as a user of the Internet platform and a developers of products and tools that work on the Internet, think that it’s a wrong direction we’re going it move in if we proceed with it. Please do not remove the allowable price increases cap on the org TLD. The org TLD is intended for charitable and non-profit organisations as as such deserves some protection against significant price rises. Thanks Kevin -- Sent from my Android device. Please excuse my brevity.

Removing price caps is nasty, lousy idea. Shame on you ICANN! Stop protecting interests of big corporations and start doing what you are supposed to do and what you have been created for: defend interests of domain registrants. How long you are you going to make life worse to those who pay for food on your table?!

Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay much more more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. The registries are doing fine. They don't need your help as they are already making plenty of money.
