Please maintain the price caps for .org. if prices are allowed to wildly increase it will hurt the abilities of non profits to fulfill their missions by diverting funds away from programming, else undertaking a domain move and risking disconnection from donors and clients.

I am a .org registrant. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

I strongly protest the rash action to remove price restrictions on domain names. 10% a year increase is more than fair. "Fixing" what is not broken is bound to break it. Do not let greed compromise the use of the World Wide Web. The pricing structure for "new" top level domains should have fallen under these safe restrictions as well. DO NOT REMOVE PRICE LIMITATIONS. To whom it may concern, Please do not do this! Allowing PIR, the registry operator, to act monopolistically with such a prominent TLD goes against what the Web should be. As a .org registrant I strongly oppose the unconscionable proposal allowing removal of a cap on price increase for .org domain registration, via Section 2.10 of the .org renewal agreement. Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. The .org gTLD is used largely by nonprofits. The price cap provisions of the .org agreement are vital for these service organizations. In fact price caps should be applied to all tld's! Automation technology is supposed to make basic services like operation of a domain registry cheaper over time. These costs should be minimal as the process is normally automated with flat and minimal associated overhead costs. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. As a non profit institution ICANN should stand up for the interest of the public and registrants! If the domain registries can't figure out how to operate on around $10 per domain per year or less, the management ought to be given over to some sort of non-profit cooperative other than ICAAN, or to a fully automated blockchain-based smart contract system. The internet benefits society. The registry of domain names should not be turned in to a profiteering machine to benefit a few at the expense of many. So far ICANN has done an admirable job in administering the net. Please move on to more productive topics that strengthen the openness and power of the internet for all. Rather than a fee limit increase/removal of cap, change the suggestion to a perpetual domain, once bought it's the owners property, with no further charges allowed except for the legal transfer of the domain. To whom it may concern, I am greatly troubled by the prospect of allowing prices to increase without restriction on .ORG domains. Organizations that use these domains are typically ones that have extremely limited resources and cannot afford to be gouged on operational costs for domain names. Domain name squatting is already a problem, but this threatens to be an even greater hurdle for such organizations to continue to thrive. I sincerely hope you consider the historical context of these domains and the valuable services provided through their use that are not correlated with any commercial value. I am against these changes. My daughter who makes less than $18K US a year just started a venture for Comics and she can barely afford the fees at the current rate. How can people who have to pay rent, child care and other expenses try to get on a platform to promote themselves with un-limited price hikes. This is madness. -Paul Leet

Many .org sites are charities or otherwise are not well funded. To remove a price limit can expose these sites and organizations to excessive prices. Since many have had their domain names established over many years an excessive price increase is unethical. A fair price rise as has been the practice in the past is reasonable. Placing these organizations at the mercy of arbitrary price moves is wrong. Vic Magnet
