It is important, especially for non-profits using the .org top-level domain, to have access to affordable domain name registration. The Internet is now crucial to providing information and should be treated as such. Imagine interstate highways guarded by toll booths whose operators can increase prices at will. Just as that would restrict the flow of commodities to towns with less resources, market-driven domain registration would restrict small non-profits from having this vital communication tool. An open, equal, and free Internet depends on financial regulation. Just as Net Neutrality is the effort to equalize access, domain price caps equalizes access. Sincerely, Brian Lashbrook

I am very disappointed to learn that ICANN is considering opening .org domains to profiteering and price gouging. I represent a non-profit publishing operation, and I've worked with many non profit organizations over the years. These organizations have built their digital presence on the foundation of a domain name—they will have no choice but to pay whatever ransom it takes to continue using their domains. Have the costs involved in reselling domain names increased substantially? Is there any reason to think these costs will increase in a limitless manner in years to come? ICANN's role should be to ensure that organizations have the tools to thrive on the internet—not to enable commercial greed. I write as the domain owner of two .org websites to speak out against the the current effort to remove the limitations on price increases for .org providers. The arguments in place supporting this change adversely affect small organizations that use .org domain names, so the claims for equitable treatment under the base registry agreement are false. I do not consider it appropriate to end the cap on service fee increases for .org domains. While it may be appropriate to allow unlimited price increases in new TLDs, the traditional TLDs, where many registrants are already established, must remain protected from abuse, as those registrants expect to retain those protections. - johnny

To Whom It May Concern: I oppose removal of the price cap associated with ".Org" TLD. For clarity, I want to acknowledge that I specifically have read and oppose the following: In alignment with the base registry agreement, the price cap provisions in the current .org agreement, which limited the price of registrations and allowable price increases for registrations, are removed from the .org renewal agreement. Protections for existing registrants will remain in place, in line with the base registry agreement. This change will not only allow the .org renewal agreement to better conform with the base registry agreement, but also takes into consideration the maturation of the domain name market and the goal of treating the Registry Operator equitably with registry operators of new gTLDs and other legacy gTLDs utilizing the base registry agreement The .org TLD holds a unique status within the world of TLDs and the broader internet ecosystem. To the ICANN Staff and Board, I own an .org domain. I can understand and relate with the desire to streamline and optimize processes to reduce overhead, the .org gTLD is special in its purpose, and should thus then be treated with the care and thoughtfulness that it deserves. I feel that removing fee caps for the .org domain poorly reflects upon ICANN’s mission to provide operational stability to the internet. In removing fee caps, you will remove the stability and dependability of access to millions of current and future non-profit organizations that use the .org gTLD to communicate and spread their community-driven goals. Hi, As a contributor to the internet and to not-for-profit Organisations - please don't be an enabler of profit and greed over community good. Just do what's right for everyone rather than for a few. It's pretty simple really. I totally oppose allowing price increases to .org domains over and above the current state. Thanks, Rhys

I do not think that the pricing cap on should be removed. No need to do so has been justified, and it provides a small bit of protection against unjustified future increases.
