Dear ICANN, I am a .org registrant. I run a small non-profit site that is for information only, solely to help people. It is not an official non-profit, but I collect no income from it (I donate my time and expense). If prices skyrocket on .org domains I would be forced to close my site. No equivalent .com name is available since I registered my .org name over 15 years ago! ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group that has been mandated to review this issue. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them and would force many of us to close our sites. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. Hello: I am writing to protest the proposal to do away with the price caps on domain names by ICANN. I am a solo entrepreneur and small online business owner - as a travel blogger and creator of an online course. I have many different URLs for my business, as well as for my personal name (for protection purposes). I can't afford the possibility of large price increases for my various domain names - and fear it would be very detrimental to not only my business but all of my fellow small business entrepreneurs. Please reconsider removing the price increase caps for the .org domain. The price for some tlds has gotten insane over the years, we shouldn't let that happen to .org as well.

Good morning - I am an educator who has a .org domain and I implore you not to allow PIR to raise the price of .org domains by more than the 10% that is currently allowed. This domain is of great importance to non-profit organizations and people in related fields, and not preventing the type of price gouging that is common for .com sites would be disastrous. Dear ICANN representative-- With great dismay, I read an email notice this morning from my website host, Namecheap, saying this: "ICANN’s current contract with Public Interest Registry (PIR), the group that runs the .org domain name, allows PIR to increase the wholesale price of .org domains by 10% a year. Now ICANN is proposing extending the contract to operate .org but letting PIR set whatever prices it wants." Quite honestly, my first response was, "This is crazy! Who's behind this ridiculously greedy proposal?" I even wondered if this proposal is coming from the top down. In other words, is the current political administration--which is steeped in greed--now attempting to sink its claws into yet another realm, namely, Internet hosting services? On another note, the issue of Net Neutrality remains controversial as state and national lawmakers continue to wage battle between the forces of greed and the forces of fairness during an administration that's clearly in bed with big business at the expense of small businesses nationwide. Now ICANN is considering a proposal to allow PIR to raise domain prices indiscriminately, which obviously favors big business over small business once again. Indeed, it's difficult for me to refrain from resorting to outrage and even profanity in the face of ICANN's bald-faced show of disrespect for those of us who, as small businesspeople, struggle just to stay afloat amidst a sea of continually increasing prices. ICANN's current proposal goes far beyond its previously reasonable yearly price allowances (10%) into the realm of downright hostility toward any business that can barely keep up with the reasonable 10% increases, much less uncapped increases. I urge ICANN to consider, with heart, its unconscionable lack of consideration for small businesses everywhere--and instead, stay the course with its previous 10% yearly price increases. I am a .org registrant. I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. Telling the .org registry that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. You let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. .Org has been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year. Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. The registries are doing fine. They don't need your help as they are already making plenty of money. Sincerely, Kelvin Bell

I believe that the current prices are excessive and someone is profiteering from the continued growth of the Internet. I believe that prices should instead be coming down.
