I am writing to petition against the proposed removing of price caps on all .org top level domains. This change could significantly increase the wholesale price for domains for the most vulnerable organizations that may be charities or nonprofit in nature, and would force them to pay more. Please reconsider this action for all of those organizations dependent on .org domains for their presence and communications. Fabien Antony

There are many non-profit organizations in the world, which account for a large proportion of .org domains. They live on donations, target to contribute to society. For a tiny non-profit organization, it probably can't afford the extra costs. ICANN should not give them any more cost pressure. Please do not make fee increasing, keep the current arrangements.

The proposal to lift price caps on legacy TLDs will only serve to allow unfettered "taxing" of the current domain holders. In effect, TLD holders will be held hostage by their vendor, as the TLD is often synonymous with the brand. This is a bad idea and contrary to the public interest. Good Morning, Raising the acquisition and maintenance prices to .ORG domains will cause the public consumers to face increased costs. Many .orgs are non profit organizations which shouldn’t have to face the increased surcharges when most are operating on a limited budget. It costs money for the internet to run, I’m aware of this, however as an owner of a software company and a developer for many years, I know all too well the costs associated with trying to provide a quality product to a consumer. We all have to pass these charges on to the consumer to sustain our business models. Everyone knows that, but with increased PAAS, SAAS, DAAS, data charges, and internet charges, compiled on top of your suggested uncapped increases for certain business related domain names. We could potentially make it where consumers can’t afford to search much less make purchase on the free internet. It doesn’t however excuse us from setting reasonable increase limits and restrictions on ourselves to make sure that the underlying consumer doesn’t have to face sticker shock from a subscription increase. Please reconsider this adjustment to adding uncapped price increases to not only .org, but too .info, and .biz as well. The optional 10% yearly increase has worked just fine and is more than acceptable. Thank you, Jason R. I appreciate the opportunity to submit the following comments regarding the proposed renewal terms of the .org Registry Agreement. My comments pertain specifically to the 'Pricing for Domain Name Registrations and Registry Services (Section 2.10 of the .org renewal agreement)'. These comments represent my personal opinion and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or opinions of any professional organizations and employers that I am affiliated with. As a member of the constituency who has utilized retail domain name registry services on the behalf of multiple organizations of various sizes, I am concerned about and do not support the proposed removal of current stipulations that limit the price of registrations and allowable price increases for registrations, as this pertains specifically to .org domains. The .org TLD is unique amongst all TLDs in representing an important concept to internet users of a typical, non-commercial enterprise. There is therefore substantial value for usage of this domain across a wide array of not-for-profit efforts, many of which have severely limited resources. In addition, fiscal predictability of future expenditures is oftentimes critical for small to moderately-sized non-profit organizations. The proposed grandfathering of existing domain owners' renewals is insufficient to address these concerns and the proposed changes may, therefore, provide significant and unneccessary future barriers and other constraints on the establishment, visibility, and viability of small organizations' internet presences that have important social and societal benefits. Thank you for the opportunity to submit a comment. I am a .org registrant and a not-for-profit support organisation. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits.support organisations or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits or not- for- profit- support organisations. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants! Thank you!
