Hi there, As an employee of a non-profit organization that owns a .org domain, I strongly disagree with the decision to remove the price cap provisions in the current .org agreement. Removing that price cap is something that wholesale registries can and *will* take advantage of, potentially charging astronomical prices. This removal could be especially damaging since .org is used so commonly *by non-profits.* Had this price cap not been in place when we were looking to purchase our .org domain, we may not have been able to afford it. Please do not allow for this unnecessary burden. Dear ICANN, I am a .org registrant. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

Please keep the price caps in place, because there is no benefit to non-profits and private parties paying more for registering their domains. The only benefit is to line the pockets of companies who add little value to the domain registration process. Shane Graham

I work for a school. We always use .orgs as a way to differentiate ourselves from businesses. These are web-based projects that don't need to be or shouldn't be affiliated with our .edu account. To raise the prices would be a blow to the creativity of students and would severely and unduly encumber our ability to explore and experiment online. Im sure you already know this, and are just trying to ring out a couple more dollars, limiting the online space to those who can afford it. It's disappointing that one organization yields so much power. Maybe I don't understand though. Educate me. Tell me why this is necessary. Jesse

I operate two nonprofits for children and utilize .org addresses for the websites hosted by Namecheap. A rise in any administrative costs means I give less money to sick and disabled children. Cerise

I'm writing to ask ICANN to reconsider removing the registration fee caps on .org domains. We are a small gospel ministry that makes absolutely no profit, imposing higher fee's would be devastating to someone like us. I hope you understand and listen to all the people leaving comments in this thread and I hope greed doesn't drive you to stomp on the little guys. Just because you can, doesn't mean you have to.
