formulation of a domain name is the domain of the individual(s) who first create the entity identity. assigning a .org, or .biz, or whatever suffix has been established to further monetize such distinctions is in keeping with the constant goal of more profits today, than yesterday. stop the unjustifiable increases to the cost of living. greed only adds to the general malaise that pervades our collective societies with ever increasing burdens. what will come next, a charge for the prefix Mr., Ms, Mrs.Sir, Madame? those that advocate these increases should be stripped of their positions and relegated to proof reading essays from high schoolers.

I am a .org registrant and a not-for-profit or non-profit organization. Increasing the prices too high would prohibit a small nonprofit organization like us from being able to keep a web presence. I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. Telling the .org registry that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. You let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. .Org has been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year. Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. Hello, I'm the owner of funcall.org for almost two decades now. This domain has gradually evolved into mail, web, and service presence for me, my family, my friends and projects. There are many years worth of accounts, service agreements and and points of contact tied to it. As none of that has any commercial value, I feel the proposed changes aim to retroactively exploit my choice of domain name made a long time ago. I am against removing the price caps. The .org tld was created as a public good that operators are entrusted to protect. The new gTLDs were "purchased" by their operators. I own extremeperl.org. This is a free book that I operate for the public good. I chose the .org domain precisely because it is a public good, not a for profit book. I receive no revenue from it. When I chose the domain 15 years ago, I didn't think I would be subject to arbitrary price increases. How many sites are there like mine? Many. The whole concept is similar to turning over the HOA of your house to a company that can charge what it likes. That would be stupid. The HOA is run by a board that ensures the lowest cost for the owners by governing the property managers. Do not remove the price caps. Allowing unfettered price-setting on domain names will destabilize this critical part of internet infrastructure, increase speculation, and make it much harder for business owners to plan for future costs or growth. It will do net harm to business and the internet, which is a critical public good. We have very little to gain and much to lose. Please do not remove the price caps for .org registrations. The groups that use .org are typically small, non-profit, or public such as schools. Opening up .org to market forces will reduce .org to a second class .com. My school district owns socorroschools.org because our assigned domain, Socorro.k12.nm.us, can be unwieldily. I'm fortunate in that demand for my domain is nearly non-existent because it is so specific, so I theoretically shouldn't care if there are price caps. But if my price of registration goes up, it is certainly not market forces doing it. Socorro is a small town of less than 10,000 in rural New Mexico, and the only other Socorro in the country is outside of El Paso. Thank you. Jeffrey Tull SCSD Technology Director

I'm writing to ask ICANN to reconsider removing the registration fee caps on .org domains. These domains are used by nonprofit trade associations and individual member associations as well as tax-exempt charities. The current arrangements have worked well - please don't allow nonprofit organizations to be subjected to this unnecessary fee increase.

As a comsumer that isn't using my owned domains for personal financial gain, I oppose giving the freedom to remove the price caps. Obviously the market of consumers will suffer the most from this idea. Not the PIR. A fair level marketplace is vital for success. Many organizations will then pass these costs to others. It's a trickle down effect. It's a bad idea. Please reconsider this decision. Thank you.
