I strongly oppose the removal of any price caps for .org domain registration fees. Price is already a barrier of entry to the web for many people, unless they want to buy a .icu or .biz or .xyz domain, all 3 of which have become synonymous with spam and malware sites. That doesn't leave many of us with much choice. And what of small non-profits? How can they continue to register .org domains with the possibility of high fees being levied? No, fee increase caps are good in this instance. The world wide web is (let me rephrase: originally it was supposed to be) about giving people unfettered access to information. Removing fee caps for .org domains does the exact opposite in my opinion and may be a detriment to small organizations and economically disadvantaged people. My understanding is that this .org proposal would allow the PIR to start charging registrars significantly more money for domain renewals. They would then pass these costs onto their customers, which is particularly difficult for cost-conscious .org domain holders, who typically are not using the domains for commercial purposes. Please make sure that this proposed change doesn't negatively impact renewal pricing, where the manageable 10% annual increase could jump to well beyond that. I oppose the removal of price caps on any of the “legacy” TLDs, in this case .org. Doing so create a open price increases across the established standards. New GTLDs are already accepted as alternative options with price expectations that vary greatly based on the registry. It will be more difficult for current registrants to maintain stability in an open market. This is especially true with the .org domain names. I would like to ask that you leave the current price caps in place for the millions of current and well established registrants who have a business model that is reasonable, affordable and stable. I respectfully make the following comments. I am a .org registrant and a not-for-profit or non-profit organization. ICANN does not seem to recognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support of the US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millions of existing users and the brand new extensions that started off with a new set of rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. They have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. It is not acceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose that they be treated the same. Removing price caps is not fair to .org domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names. Why is ICANN trying to remove price protections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so that they can be overcharged for their domain names?

We are a small non-profit and any increase would mean that we would either have to give up our website or have to provide less services to those who need it. Thanks for considering to do what is right and not allow a monopoly to set whatever price they want. Jonathan

As a part of several scientific groups which use this domain, I am alarmed at the fact that the cost overheads for scientific managers will increase. I think this is a good idea. Something needs to be done to stop Domain name squatters siting on good names for years and demanding outrageous sums for their release and sale. vastly increasing the prices of domains would go a long way to stopping this practice. Dear ICANN, I am a domain name registrant for many organizations, many are non-profits with limited to anemic budgets. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!
