Hi, I'm writing to ask that you retain the cap on price increases for registering/renewing .org domains.?? Removing the limits for price increases would seriously undercut many non-profits that are under-financed and struggling already. The current pricing structure does not prevent increases, it only ensures that they do not exceed a reasonable limit. Thanks! Will

The .org TLD has become best known as the non-profit and not-for-profit domain. Allowing unlimited fee increases will allow predatory practices like those that already take place on other TLD’s. An introductory rate may be offered, only to find a MUCH higher cost on your invoice the following year. These community organizations are often ran by people not very tech savvy and volunteers who are intimidated by technology. It is a large step to bring them online in the first place, but to subject them to unreasonable fees is something that I feel must be discouraged. As mentioned, I believe the practice to be intentionally predatory and dishonest. .org’s have a special place in the history of building out the internet, and small, local, community organizations identify most often with this TLD. Dear ICANN, The removal of the price cap provisions on the .org gTLD is an egregious error. The only reasoning given is that it allows the Registry Operators to make more money, treating them equitably with newer gTLDs. Given that operating costs for gTLDs have gone down over time, and that there is nothing restricting an entity registering .org domains from also registering new gTLDs, this makes no sense. If anything the 10% per year price increase should be removed, and a permanent cap set, or one tied to global inflation. 10% is more than enough. The only people who will benefit are stakeholders in companies, while the people who actually create the internet that ICANN is a steward of will be hurt. It is a breach of trust and a failure of duty to due so. It also makes one wonder who ICANN is truly trying to help, and weakens the position that they should ever have been given control. To Whom It May Concern, Our non-profit organization currently owns dozens of domain names for our various non-profit ministries. Why, in God’s name, would anyone decide that .org domains in particular should be a market free-for-all? Non-profit organizations are the brake on untrammeled commercialism and all-too-often greedy selfish interest. It is suicidal to work against organizations who’s primary focus is service to humanity by making them pay more money and chipping away at the limited cash flow they do have. Please do not eliminate the fee caps. Domain registrations are not much more than bits and bytes on a hard drive, and an increase in yearly fee makes little sense. The unlimited fee increase is a horrible idea and will make it much harder for non-profits, churches, and smaller organizations to purchase and use a domain name. You guys really need to stop thinking about how you can make more money. Think about how to innovate and the money will come. Don’t hurt the little guys.

Organization that register for a .org domain are typically non-profit and have limited funds and/or exist on donations. There is no reason to further encumber these organizations with unlimited price increases for domain registration. In fact, 10% per year is already too high. Non-profits should pay cost and nothing more.

The .org is generally construed as a charitable/non-profit/organizational domain, and thus the fees should reflect that. There needs to be firm pricing on all tld's to prevent profiteering and squatting
