It goes without saying, but allowing arbitrary price increases can take apart what we know as the internet.  It allows for the politicization of domain ownership.  For example, imagine a scenario where a person sympathetic to Donald Trump is put in charge of PIR.  Suddenly he may decide to make aclu.org or splc.org cost an exorbitant amount as a political weapon.  That cannot be allowed to happen.
