The 10% cap being already quite hefty if applied, removing a cap would mean abusing what essentially is a monopoly position. Existing domain name holders have nowhere else to go. You must be well aware that changing to another domain is not a realistic option in today’s indexed way of using internet. The internet and its infrastructure are akin to a public utility company. If electricity companies were allowed to increase prices at their discretion, what could people do? They would be a hostage of their situation: one cannot stop consuming electricity, but you are also not allowed do construct a parallel power grid with a group of other people to try and compete. Removing price protection when stakeholders do not have realistic alternatives boils down to a predatory practice that would be illegal as well as morally rejectable.

For the .org TLD we are talking in general about not-for-profit organizations. Any price increase is likely to be at the expense of the good work most of these organizations do for our society.
