ICANN is surely aware that .org domains are the default TLDs for nonprofit organisations worldwide, and has been for decades. What is the purpose of making this change, and exposing such organisations to excessive fee increases? That's exactly what will happen if the reasonable caps currently in place are removed. A perfect example of this can be found in the pharmaceuticals industry and its massive price increases in recent years. I'm not sure how long the people behind this proposed change have been working in the internet industry, but this proposal seems excessively punitive towards tens of thousands of organisations that tend to have a social interest, which makes the change antithetical to the founding ideals of the internet. I'd like to see ICANN reject this proposed change and maintain the current pricing structure, for the benefit of thousands or organisations directly, and via their work, for billions of people ultimately.
