[Comments-org-renewal-18mar19] Unrestricted Price increase to .org
I object to the unlimited price increase allowed in you renewal agreement with PIR for the .ORG domain. Anytime something of value is controlled in a non-competitive environment it is important to have price controls firmly in place. The companies that work under PIR work in a highly competitive market as I can contract with Go Daddy, NameCheap, Domainnames and a host of others to provide my .org domain services. Thus there is natural free market constraints on their price structure. However, they cannot obtain their .org domain names and management from any competing companies, thus the strong potential for abusive price structures similar to what we see in the pharmaceutical industry. Therefore I would like to see this part of the agreement eliminated or modified. I understand that PIR may need more funds to operate. That should be handled by a set price adjustment and the annual increase could be adjusted if necessary. However, to allow a "product or service of value" controlled by only one entity to be subject to unrestricted price increases is not wise or good public policy. Thank you for considering this comment in your decision. [Douglas Janssen Signature]
