I am the webmaster for a .org registrant. The .org TLD is used mainly by nonprofit organizations, who operate in the public interest. It is not often used by commercial organizations. Small nonprofits cannot afford large increases in their operating costs. Removing the price caps on .org domain name registrations could create great hardships for small nonprofits.
