Dear Marilyn,
The Friday before, I wouldn’t be in Durban yet. But I like the
idea of Mike to make it on Friday after early in the morning (08:00 – 09:00) so
that it will not conflict with our meeting starting at 9:00

If this is
the Friday before, let's make Friday afternoon and early evening? If it could
become then AFTER a meeting for prep for next stage, then make it the Friday
AFTER the meeting.

A budget process improvement kickoff meeting on Friday
morning before any other sessions start sounds like an idea worth
pursuing further to me. Thanks for the idea Marilyn.

Subject: RE: [community-finance] Durban Public Finance Session
I have long
advocated scheduling this meeting at a time when it does not compete with our
normal working commitments. As the Board no longer holds a reasonable
interaction with the Community on the final day, but essentially a pro forma
reporting out, the meetings have been shortened to four working days. This
crams in a huge amount of work for all of us into what is actually only 3.5
days, due to the opening session. For any of us in Constituencies/WGs, or
in the ccNSO, there are also required meetings for our Communities.
Is it
possible to consider scheduling at least one session on the Friday a.m. after
the ICANN Board meeting, so that extensive discussions can occur without
forcing all of us to deal with major conflicts of time.
Building up
expertise over time with a core group improves the understanding and ability to
be of support to the budget /finance planning process.
Could this
be considered -- again? as a possibility?
As to the
schedule of Wednesday, it could be possible to segregate the new gTLD budget,
but the concerns of the community about 'excess income', and the risks
associated with what may be unidentified issues, such as issues like dotless
domains which are still under examination are also probably community
discussion topics regarding SSR issues, rather than just a budget /finance
discussion.

Subject: [community-finance] Durban Public Finance Session
All:
In
preparation for the Durban Public Finance Session (tentatively scheduled for
Wednesday July 17, 2013 11:00AM), we are soliciting your feedback on items to
be included in the agenda. The following have been identified as
potential agenda items:
·
FY14 Draft Budget
o SO/ AC Requests – overall results
and implementation approach
o Public comments overview – address
major areas of focus/ concern
o Review budget development process
improvement– post mortem on FY14 budget process and next steps for FY15 budget
process*
·
Future Financial
Reporting
o FY13 Actual vs. FY13 Budget and FY12
Actual w/ variance analysis – to be published by the Buenos Aires meeting
o Quarterly public reporting – format/
content currently under review with the BFC
·
New gTLD Program
Update**
* Similar
to last year, we would like to form a working group to help formulate a better
process for the development of the FY15 budget; one that allows more
interaction with the community. In preparation for this, we would
like the community’s feedback on having a separate 60 minute “kickoff” session to discuss budget development
process improvement. The purpose of this session will be to define
the working group goals and gain consensus on the best approach to facilitate
the working group (calls/ webinars/ etc.).
**The New
gTLD program update may be included in the New gTLD Session rather than the
Public Finance Session.
Will you
please provide your feedback on the above agenda items as well as items not
listed that you feel should be addressed during the session? We will
consider all recommendations, however given the 90 minute timeframe (including
Q&A) all may not be included in the final agenda.
Will you
also please provide feedback on having the 60 minute budget development process
improvement “kickoff” meeting?
Thank you
in advance for your strong support.
Best
regards,
Taryn
