Dear Councilors,

During our August meeting, I noted the currently open public comment period for ICANN’s Draft Strategic Plan and Operating Plan Framework for FY26-30. 

Strategic Objective 1.1 is “Evolve and promote ICANN’s multistakeholder model to sustain its inclusive Internet governance model”. In particular, the Council should be aware of Strategic Goal 1.2: Enhance the Agility and Effectiveness of Policy and Advice Development. This goal implicates the activities of the GNSO and is currently categorized as “Strategic Intensity, Heightened Attention”. It is unknown at this stage what the level of effort might be in order to achieve this goal. In response to the current categorization, the Council may want to highlight its commitment to continuous improvement over the years, and accordingly, the Strategic Goal could be more appropriately categorized as “Incremental Improvements, Moderate Attention”.  

Given the particular relevance of this Strategic Goal to the GNSO’s work, it would be beneficial to submit a public comment from the GNSO Council. 

The deadline for public comments is 17 September 2024. If you would like to volunteer to assist Council leadership in drafting the comment, please let us know by Tuesday, 20 August.
