As an action item from the “Managing IDN Variants TLDs” agenda item, out of the 18 April 2019 Council meeting, it was decided:

Small group of Councilors to convene and then coordinate with ICANN to get further understanding, and potentially propose next steps for IDN TLD Variants.

On behalf of Council leadership, staff is sending out a call for Council volunteers to consider the topic of IDNs and recommend the approach by the which the Council addresses the issue. To be clear, the scope of this small team is not to develop solutions as it relates to IDNs, but merely to recommend to the Council the manner in which solutions should be developed (e.g., SubPro develops relevant policy, a new PDP/EPDP is convened, other). If you are interested in signing up for this small team, please let staff know by 13 May 2019.

Note, staff has prepared a draft background/options paper, intended to help facilitate the work of this small group.
