Truly tragic news indeed, he will be sorely missed... 

As it happens I have friends who were some 15 cars back from the accident and just now in chat, they have commented to me how prompt the helicopter response was, delivering 2 doctors to the scene, and how much care and time was taken stabilizing him before transport to hospital, they feared spinal involvement in the injury list I believe... Not any consolation of course but it appears that everything that could be done for he, and of course Julie, was done efficiently and in a very timely manner.

Dear colleagues,

 

It’s with great sadness that I must report the passing of Stephane Van Gelder. He was involved in a motorcycle crash on Friday, went into a coma and died last night. I will share details re memorial services, and will coordinate with our Registrar colleagues for some sort of rememberance ceremony at the GDD Summit.
