Dear Fellow Councilors,
I am happy to report that the small team has completed its work on the Clarifying Statement for Topic 9: Registry Voluntary Commitments / Public Interest Commitments
– Recommendations 9.1, 9.4, 9.8, 9.9, 9.10, 9.12, 9.13, 9.15 (see attached). For your information, the small team engaged with the Board liaisons on the proposed clarifying language to confirm that from their perspective the proposed clarifying statement addresses
the previous concerns expressed by the Board. As a result, we believe this is now in a good place to be considered by the GNSO Council for adoption (although there may be some who were not able to attend Monday’s call who may need to chime in on this, but
we are asking them to do so, if needed, on the list so that we can keep this moving). As we already discussed this topic during the last Council meeting, and the Board liaisons have indicated that getting the clarifying statement to the ICANN Board prior to
the ICANN78 meeting in Hamburg to allow for Board action on these topic 9 recommendations, I would like to request Council leadership to consider initiating an email vote as soon as practicable. If there are any questions or concerns, I am happy to address
these.
