Dear Heather,

if you mean GNSO policy work geared to new/future rounds of gTLD, then I fully agree with your comment.

I started asking about this, last review long ago while in the ATRT2. And the standard answer at the time was that it would be donde only after the new gTLD round. So I guess we have to make sure not only that the Review Team is balanced, but that its results are “compatible” and feedback with all policy efforts about new gTLD rounds and/or processes. But so would argue all other AC/SOs.

I want to add to your comment that the single fact that there are many more TLDs and more Registries and Registrars after the last round, should not “automatically" be counted as more competition. From my perspective the last round may have undoubtedly increased choice, but at the same time DN field has become much more specialised and also suffers competition form the outside, like is the case of apps and other platforms that have become intermediaries between final internet users and registrants. If that case can be proven, then the “pure” DNS should also be carefully analysed as a wholesaler and other possible scenarios affecting other players downstream have to be considered in the review.

I hope we have a chance to discuss in the session tomorrow beyond endorsements and collect a few smart question for the CEO and GAC Chair on the composition of the Team, as well as the quality and purpose of the data so far collected by Nielsen for the exercise. In the end endorsements are not expected until Dec 14.

best regards

Dear all,

Are we at all able to campaign for additional slots, given the critical nature of this review to the GNSO's ongoing work? Surely we are the community most affected by the subject of review.

Best wishes,

Heather

Hi,

to my knowledge this is still very much a black box, i.e. we do not know the number of slots or criteria for the choice. We assume our recommendations might carry some weight, but that may not be the case.

Best,

Volker

All,

from the agenda I understand that the council is going to discuss endorsing “GNSO representatives” who then may be taken into consideration by the selectors (Fadi and GAC chair Thomas Schneider). I wonder whether there are criteria already available – in terms of quantity and quality – in order to facilitate this council decision until 13 Dec. Do we have to develop those criteria? Do we know how many slots will be available for the GNSO?

Best regards

Dear All,

Please note that Jonathan Zuck’s affiliation was inadvertently left out of the announcement. This should get fixed shortly so please add his name to the list of candidates to be considered by the GNSO Council which makes the total eighteen:
