Dear Council colleagues,

As ICANN63 rapidly approaches and we turn our minds to the details of agendas, please see the two questions below that the Board has asked SO/ACs to consider in preparation. 

Main priorities in 2019 are at this stage rather unformed; the incoming 2018/19 Council will want to identify and drive these efforts, so the request is for our SO rather premature. That said, we can offer some insight on the opportunity of a second Strategic Planning Session, and upcoming milestones in the EPDP, SubPro and RPM PDPs. 

Multistakeholder model future development links very neatly to our PDP3.0 project, which itself has its origin in the Strategic Planning Session (here I'm thinking of our "scary spreadsheet" of everything on the GNSO's to-do list in 2018, which has become a model for other SO/ACs in strategic planning). I am hopeful that our PDP3.0 efforts were on the Board's mind when sending this question around. 

We need to capture in return our questions for the Board, so this email can serve as the kick off for that discussion. Note the deadline for notification is the Monday immediately following next week's GNSO Council meeting, so time is tight.

Dear Constituency and Stakeholder Groups Chairs,

 

Questions to the Board - Please reply no later than Monday 1 October 2018

  

The Board is looking forward to meeting with you at the upcoming AGM starting on 20 October 2018 in Barcelona.  While we are looking at always improving our processes and interaction with you, we also would like to look at the challenges ahead of us in 2019.  

 

I am therefore sending you herewith two questions that the Board would like to submit to your attention for the upcoming face-to-face meetings in Barcelona:

 

- What will be your main priorities in 2019?  

 

- How should ICANN's multisatkeholder model of governance and Policy Development Process evolve to balance the increasing need for inclusivity, accountability and transparency, with the imperative of getting our work done and our policies developed in a more effective and timely manner, and with the efficient utilization of ICANN’s resources?  

                                                                                                                                                                                

In the meantime, we would be very grateful if you could send to Board Operations (board-ops-team@icann.org)  the questions you would like the Board to address during our face-to-face meetings. 

 

Given the finite time available for these meetings, we would appreciate it very much if you could list your questions in order of priority.   We would also appreciate getting your questions no later than Monday 1 October, 2018 or sooner.
