🚨DUE TOMORROW: Questions or Topics for ICANN Community Groups and ICANN Board Joint Sessions During ICANN73 🚨

 

ICANN Board Chair Maarten Botterman has proposed the following topics to discuss with ICANN community groups during ICANN73:

·     What are your key priorities for ICANN work in 2022, how do these priorities help achieve ICANN’s common objectives as expressed in the FY 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, and how do you see the ICANN community, Board, and org moving forward together on a way to achieve these?

·     If any, what suggestions would you have to enhance ICANN’s effectiveness and efficiency with regards to the process of implementation after adoption of a PDP or Review recommendations?

 

Please submit your topic of interest and/or questions to board-ops-team@icann.org no later than Friday, 18 February 2022.

The Policy Outlook report for ICANN73 is now available. This report is written by the Policy Development Support function. The report provides a high-level overview of the planned work and activities of the Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees during ICANN73.

 

 

 

REMINDER: ICANN Continues the Pandemic Internet Access Reimbursement Program

 

Interested ICANN community members must apply in advance of ICANN73, and those who meet the eligibility requirements will be selected to participate. The application process [r20.rs6.net] opens Monday, 24 January 2022. The application deadline is Friday, 18 February 2022 at 23:59 UTC.

 

The goal of this program is to facilitate participation in ICANN Public Meetings during the pandemic. It offers community members who have limited Internet capacity financial assistance to increase their Internet bandwidth.

 

 

 

REMINDER: ICANN73 Prep Week Schedule Now Available

 

ICANN has announced the ICANN73 Prep Week schedule. Prep Week consists of 12 sessions to prepare the ICANN community for the ICANN73 Virtual Community Forum taking place 7–10 March 2022.

 

ICANN73 Prep Week will take place 22–24 February 2022. Sessions will be conducted in English and will feature remote simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish. To attend any of the sessions, please register [r20.rs6.net] for ICANN73.

NEW: ICANN Community Representatives Chosen to Nominate the IRP Omnibus Standing Panel Slate

 

ICANN org, in consultation with the Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs), announced the seven individuals who have been selected as the members of the Independent Review Process (IRP) Community Representatives Group. The group is responsible for supporting the SOs and ACs in proposing a slate of nominees, for confirmation by the ICANN Board of Directors, to constitute an omnibus standing panel that will hear and resolve disputes filed under the IRP described in the ICANN Bylaws [r20.rs6.net].

 

 

 

NEW: Quantum Computing and the DNS

 

The ICANN Office of the Chief Technology Office (OCTO) has published OCTO-031: Quantum Computing and the DNS. Quantum computers have attracted the attention of the security community in recent years due to the possibility that they will be able to undermine currently-popular cryptographic algorithms. There are no quantum computers powerful enough to do so today, but as the technology slowly improves, there may come a day when some of the algorithms in use today will be easily broken by this new type of computer

 

 

 

NEW: ICANN in North America: New Engagement Plan and Hundreds of Participants in 2021

 

It has been another busy year for the North American Global Stakeholder Engagement team at ICANN org. As you may know, ICANN does not make Internet policy, you do, through your participation in our meetings, programs, and policy development processes. Our job is to make sure anyone in the North American region who wants to be, can be, engaged, knowledgeable, and included in realizing ICANN's mission of making the Internet safer, more resilient and interoperable.

 

 

 

NEW: ICANN Conducts its First Key Ceremony of 2022 to Secure the Internet

 

ICANN is pleased to announce that it conducted its 44th key signing ceremony at 21:00 UTC on 16 February 2022. This important operational procedure helps secure the Domain Name System (DNS) against several security vulnerabilities. The DNS is a crucial piece of Internet infrastructure used by over 4.5 billion people every day.

 

 

 

NEW: Recapping the ICANN Community's 2021 Achievements Ahead of ICANN73

 

ICANN organization (org) recognizes the challenges many ICANN community members face to participate in the ICANN multistakeholder model, particularly during this time. The org also celebrates the many milestones the ICANN community achieved in 2021.

 

 

 

REMINDER: Nominations for ICANN Fellowship Program Mentors Now Open

 

ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees are invited to nominate volunteers to serve as Fellowship Program Mentors for ICANN75-ICANN77. Each group is welcome to nominate one individual for this role, for a total of up to seven mentors. Nominations should be submitted by Friday, 25 February 2022 to fellowshipconsultation@icann.org.

 

 

 

REMINDER: Apply Now for the ICANN75 Fellowship Program

 

Today, ICANN opened the Fellowship Program application round for the ICANN75 Annual General Meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 17–22 September 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If ICANN75 is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also be held virtually. The deadline to apply is Thursday, 3 March 2022 at 23:59 UTC. Successful candidates will be announced on Tuesday, 17 May 2022 on the ICANN website.

 

 

 

REMINDER: Calling for NextGen@ICANN Applications for ICANN74

 

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is calling for applications for the NextGen@ICANN program.

 

ICANN wants to hear from university students living and studying in Europe who are interested in the future of the Internet and in participating in the ICANN74 Policy Forum Meeting. ICANN74 is scheduled to be held in The Hague, Netherlands from 13 to 16 June 2022. If ICANN74 is held virtually, the NextGen@ICANN Program will also be held virtually.

 

The NextGen application window will remain open until Friday, 11 March 2022. Successful candidates will be announced Friday, 25 March 2022 on the ICANN website.

The ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom) invites interested individuals to submit applications for key leadership positions within ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, the ICANN Board, and the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board of Directors.

 

Selected individuals will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development.
