NEW: Coalition for Digital Africa Expands Top-Level Domain Performance Monitoring

 

The Coalition for Digital Africa is launching another initiative aimed at strengthening Internet infrastructure to bring more Africans online. This latest project is focused on installing two new monitoring probe nodes in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) service level agreement monitoring (SLAM) system within the Africa region. This will provide more accurate measurements of service availability and performance monitoring experienced by Internet users in Africa.

This four-day hybrid event will take place 10-13 July in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The focus of this year's event is mitigating Domain Name System (DNS) abuse as a shared responsibility.

NEW: 2023 ICANN DNS Symposium to Be Held in Da Nang, Vietnam

 

The symposium invites researchers, developers, and operators to present on subjects including, but not limited to, blockchains, Internet of Things, and novel uses of the DNS, such as IP-to-location translation and blocklists.

ICANN announced that it will host the second Africa Engagement Forum on 25-27 July 2023 at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, Ghana. The Forum aims to encourage the active involvement of African community members in Internet governance by promoting their participation in ICANN.

This blog highlights resources that are available under ICANN agreements and policies for registrants experiencing issues with their domain name registrations with Epik. The blog also explains the actions ICANN org is taking to ensure this registrar complies with its contractual obligations.

NEW OCTO Publication: Round-Trip Times Between Resolvers and IMRS

 

The goal of the research described in this document is to inform the

community about how long it takes for resolvers that are “average” and “far” from an IMRS

instance to get answers to their queries. This study focuses on measuring expected

performance for resolvers that connect to IMRS.

Action Items

 

NEW: Request for Feedback: Draft Framework for Closed Generic gTLDs

 

The community participants in the ongoing Closed Generics Facilitated Dialogue are requesting community feedback on a Draft Framework that can underpin additional policy work for handling closed generic gTLDs in future rounds of gTLDs. Individuals and community groups may provide feedback through their respective staff support teams or via email to closed-generics-feedback@icann.org by 15 July 2023.

 

Community feedback on the Draft Framework will inform the group’s development of a final framework, which is expected to be used as a basis for subsequent policy development work should there be broad community support for the final framework.

ICANN and the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation (HKIRC) invite interested participants to register [r20.rs6.net] for the Asia Pacific (APAC) Domain Name System (DNS) Forum 2023 in Hong Kong, China. A dedicated website [r20.rs6.net] has also launched to provide more information about the forum.

 

The APAC DNS Forum 2023 will be held 4–5 July 2023 as a hybrid event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
