Dear Council members,

I received the following response from Sophie as to how input should be given into the question of which Reviews should be continued and which should not.   Basically the CCG said that C and SG input and individual input should be sent to the designated mailing list.   Of course Osvaldo may have further comments regarding his own input in response to this question.

"Please feel free to share my response on the Council list.

I passed your question along on the RoR call this morning. The answer is that people should use the inputonreviews@icann.org list that Osvaldo and I flagged below to share their input - whether this is individuals, SG/C positions or Council positions.

After the discussion on the call this morning, my opinion as a member of the CCG for what would be useful input to receive is as follows:

  1. Identifying the 'what' that should or should not be subject to a review, rather than just listing off existing/former/proposed reviews. This is not to say that just listing existing/former/proposed reviews would be unhelpful, but it doesn't necessarily move the discussion forward in the way a 'what' answer could.
  2. To the extent possible, explaining the 'why' of whether something should or should not be subject to a review.
  3. Suggestions that build on the outputs from the fact-finding phase of work. So for instance, referencing the reports on Specific and Organizational Reviews (here), or your takeaways from the community webinars and sessions."

Many thanks Osvaldo and Sophie.  This is very helpful!  What is the best way for Councilors to provide input to you on what reviews should be retained and what are your own recommendations in this regard as representatives?

Dear all,

We have set out an update on the work of the Review of Reviews Cross Community Group (RoR CCG) below. Please share this with your memberships.

  • Since ICANN84, the RoR CCG has conducted outreach webinars with the community. The feedback from these webinars, the sessions in Dublin and reports prepared by Staff on the Specific Reviews and Organizational Reviews are key outputs from our fact-finding phase of work.
  • The co-chairs of the RoR CCG have asked members to provide on the mailing list, two lists of reviews: one, reviews that members think should be kept (in current or improved form) or initiated; two, reviews that should not be kept or initiated. We encourage people to start thinking about this question themselves.
  • There is also going to be an effort by a subgroup of the CCG to consider if/how the Annual Report and Strategic Plan could usefully serve as foundational documents for reviewing some or all of the points set out under (a) in the draft statement of purpose of reviews [icann-community.atlassian.net]. The aim is to have the subgroup report back to the full CCG by mid-January.

As a reminder, we are available to meet with your groups to discuss the work of the RoR CCG. Individuals can also sign up as Observers to the group here [icann-community.atlassian.net], and provide input to the RoR CCG on the public mailing list inputonreviews@icann.org (full information here [icann-community.atlassian.net]).

Kind regards,

Osvaldo and Sophie
