TODAY: Webinar to Discuss the Draft PTI FY21-24 Strategic Plan

From: David Conrad, Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), the ICANN affiliate responsible for performance of the IANA functions, invites the community to engage with IANA staff and members of the PTI Board to discuss the development of its first comprehensive strategic plan.

When the PTI board and IANA staff attended ICANN66, they shared a timeline for the publication of the draft strategic plan that included face-to-face engagement during ICANN67 in Cancún, Mexico. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and change to a remote participation-only meeting, we will now host two interactive webinars in parallel with a Public Comment proceeding that is running from 20 April to 1 June 2020.

NEW: An Update Regarding the Board’s Operational Priorities

From: Maarten Botterman, ICANN Board Chair

With everything going on at the current moment, the Board has not forgotten its longer-term priorities. It’s important that we continue to learn from our experiences and invest in efforts to move forward in healthy ways. We are committed to continuous improvement.

One of the ways the Board acts on this is by pursuing our operational priorities, which we set anew every fiscal year based on where we are, and where we see opportunities to support ICANN’s mission within our Bylaws-mandated responsibilities. Former Board Chair Cherine Chalaby provided an extensive overview [r20.rs6.net] of our Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) operational priorities in a blog posted just ahead of ICANN66 in Montréal, Canada.

Recently, I wrote [r20.rs6.net] about how the ICANN Board is prioritizing its work and goals in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In this blog, I’d like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the progress we’ve made against these priorities, which we outlined during our 7 May 2020 public session [r20.rs6.net].

NEW: ICANN Posts Adopted FY21-25 Operating and Financial Plan and FY21 Budget

On 8 May 2020, the ICANN Board of Directors adopted ICANN's FY21-25 Operating and Financial Plan and FY21 Budget. Before the Plan or Budget can take effect on 1 July 2020, ICANN's Empowered Community will consider whether it will reject either or both of these documents.

The FY21-25 Operating and Financial Plan explains how ICANN org will implement the Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2021–2025. In addition, the plans adopted take into account the potential impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on ICANN org's current and planned work. These documents include:

·     Highlights [r20.rs6.net] and a summary of changes to the original draft plans posted for public comment on 20 December 2019, compared to the current adopted plans, including new assumptions and financial projections

·     An overview of the 15 Operating Initiatives [r20.rs6.net] and how ICANN org will achieve the objectives and goals set out in the ICANN Strategic Plan

·     A detailed breakdown of the 35 functional activities that are necessary to operate the organization and overall work that ICANN org performs

·     The adopted FY21 Budget [r20.rs6.net]

Two webinars were held to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ICANN org’s current and planned work. You may listen to the webinars here [r20.rs6.net].

The report for the FY21 Additional Budget Requests has been published here [r20.rs6.net].
