We would like to remind you of the
letter from Steve Crocker to Jonathan Robinson re: ICANN Board New gTLD Program Committee Resolution Concerning Exclusive Registry Access for gTLD Strings Representing Generic Terms which is the subject for discussion in Item 5 on the GNSO
Council agenda and noted below. There was one
comment on the Council list from James Bladel and we encourage you to prepare for this discussion at the Council meeting on Thursday and perhaps also provide comments on the Council list in preparation.
Item 5: COUNCIL DISCUSSION – Letter from ICANN Board Chair on Exclusive Registry Access for gTLD Terms representing Generic Strings (10 minutes)
On 27 July 2015 the ICANN Board Chair sent a letter to the GNSO Chair requesting that the GNSO specifically include the issue of exclusive registry access for generic strings serving a public interest goal as part
of the policy work it is planning to initiate on subsequent rounds of the New gTLD Program. The GNSO was also asked to inform the Board on a regular basis with regards to progress on the issue. Here the Council will discuss the letter and decide on its response.
