To provide a short overview, ICANN org is requesting that the GNSO Council reexamine  RDS-WHOIS2 Recommendation CC.1 from 2020. This recommendation deals with the accuracy of RDS data, particularly names suspended due to inaccurate data. The recommendation essentially recommends that registrars note in the RDS record that the name is suspended due to incorrect data and also recommends the name should not be “unsuspended” until the data is corrected.

The Board passed this recommendation on to the Council in 2020 for its consideration. At the time, the Council acknowledged the recommendation and noted that "the Council will ensure Recommendation CC.1 is included for consideration in due course, if this item has not be addressed in the next round of contractual negotiations between ICANN org and the Contracted Parties (as directed by the Board)." 

The topic came up during the Accuracy Scoping Team’s discussions, but as we know, those discussions were deferred, and we are currently gathering feedback from SG/Cs on the topic of accuracy and how best to make progress on this important topic. 

Folding Recommendation CC.1 into the broader discussion of accuracy (when that takes place) may make sense. We are currently awaiting feedback to our accuracy questions and may want to look at this recommendation when we examine the feedback received (this is also a friendly reminder that feedback is due from SG/Cs on 14 February).

We will ensure that this letter is flagged for later discussion, but as February’s agenda is quite full, we will need to discuss in March. Please let us know if you have any questions.
