Follow up from IDN update session (re IDN Implementation Guidelines)
Dear Council members, At the 29 January 2015 GNSO Council meeting, the Council approved the formation of an informal community discussion group to develop a list of issues for consideration during the proposed upcoming review of the IDN Implementation Guidelines. This was in response to a 3 December 2014 letter request from Akram Atallah and ICANN¹s IDN Program staff, asking the GNSO Council and community to provide this feedback. Edmon (cc¹d on this email) has already volunteered for this effort, and I believe that some SGs may be providing volunteers for this group as well. As noted previously, the Guidelines address second-level concerns with IDN implementation, including cyber squatting issues. Do note that this is not a formally chartered GNSO Working Group, the idea being that the specific task would be most effectively accomplished if the community self-identified the list of issues most of concern to them. That said, it would be very helpful if Sarmad (also cc¹d on this email) and staff know who from the community will be collaborating with Edmon to develop the list. As such, please do let us know who in your respective groups and community will be involved, and if there is anything we can do to help advance the discussions. FYI, I am also cc¹ing members of the community who had in previous meetings with the BVWG indicated interest in participating in community efforts relating to IDN implementation, in case they or their groups are also interested in contributing to the pending revision of the IDN Implementation Guidelines. Dear all, As noted in the Saturday session with Sarmad, an informal GNSO discussion group was formed in February to develop the requested list of GNSO-specific issues for the upcoming review of the IDN Implementation Guidelines. Please see the email below for the details, and please help identify additional volunteers for this effort, which as I mentioned on Saturday has been fairly inactive to date. As the Guidelines concern issues such as cyber squatting and consumer confusion at the second level, and as the list of issues to be sent to Sarmad and his team will form the basis for scoping the Working Group to be formed that will conduct the review, it will really be very helpful to have a representative group of engaged GNSO volunteers to create the GNSO issues list. Here is a copy of the Council¹s initial reply to Akram¹s letter of 3 December 2014: http://gnso.icann.org/en/correspondence/robinson-to-atallah-01mar15-en.pdf Thanks and cheers Mary Mary Wong Senior Policy Director Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN) Telephone: +1 603 574 4889 Email: mary.wong@icann.org From: Mary Wong <mary.wong@icann.org> Date: Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 06:47 To: "council@gnso.icann.org" <council@gnso.icann.org> Cc: 'Edmon Chung' <edmon@registry.asia>, 'Ching Chiao' <chiao@brandma.co>, Kurt Pritz <kpritz@thedna.org>, Pam Little <pam.little12@gmail.com>, Sarmad Hussain <sarmad.hussain@icann.org> Subject: Follow up from IDN update session (re IDN Implementation Guidelines)
