Posthumous nomination of Pam Little for the Dr. Tarek Kamel Award

Dear Councilors, GNSO Council leadership received an email from the RrSG ExCom letting us know that they are working on a posthumous nomination of Pam Little for the Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building<https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/icann-opens-nomination-period...>, which they believe she is very deserving, particularly given the work she did for the APAC region. Nominations close on 4 August 2023, but RrSG have graciously offered the GNSO council to be a joint nominator. They expect to have a draft ready early in this week that we could share for input/review. Please let us know if the GNSO Council supports these efforts. If you want to mention any specific examples from Pam's time on the GNSO Council with respect to the following, those comments would also be welcome: 1) Significant contributions to national, regional, or global capacity-development programs related to ICANN's mission 2) Developing capacity-building programs that positively influenced the multistakeholder model and diversified participation at ICANN Kind regards, John Confidentiality Notice This message is intended exclusively for the individual or entity to which it is addressed. Thank you for proposing this, which I support fully. I would like to specifically point out that when I joined the Council during the pandemic, it was a tricky time for onboarding due to all the remote work. However, Pam made herself incredibly available, was incredibly warm, and very generous with her time to provide support for an incoming Councilor. This is the kind of person that makes all the difference in a community like ours, and I'd like her to be remembered for this generosity. If leadership needs a hand in putting together the nomination, let me know. Regards --- Mark W. Hi, I'd like to share 2 examples. During the pandemic, the APAC Space used to hold readouts after each ICANN meetings. As the vice-chair of GNSO Council, Pam would always come and share the GNSO policy discussions with the APAC community. Once I raised a question in chat by the end of one of the readouts, wasn't expecting any formal response due to the limited time. To my surprise, Pam followed up on my question with an email after the call and suggested to schedule a skype call to explain more and make sure I don't have any other questions. We ended up having a 30-min skype call where she answered all of my stupid questions with extreme patience and valuable insights. I never really talked to her before the skype call, and this was one of my dearest memories since I started participating in ICANN. My organization holds a capacity-building workshop every year as an effort to encourage Taiwanese youth to participate in ICANN. We had the honor to have Pam as our speaker to introduce GNSO in 2021, when she was the vice-chair of GNSO Council. Although everything was remote, the participants could feel her passion even through the screen. Don't know if any of these could be of use, but thought I'd share with you guys.
