The Board looks forward to continuing the discussion of this issue with you during ICANN61. * Background. On 1 November 2017, ICANN Board Chair Cherine Chalaby reported <https://www.icann.org/news/blog/board-member-integrity-screening> on several steps that the Board agreed to take around Board Member Integrity Screening, an issue we had been discussing for a while. These steps included, among others, the passage of Resolution 2017.11.02.33 <https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2017-11-02-en#2.c>, which directed ICANN organization to develop and post for public comment calling on the Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) that do not currently employ a due diligence integrity screening process to seriously consider utilizing a due diligence integrity screening process similar (or identical to) the processed used by the Nominating Committee. On 2 March, the proposal paper <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposed-uniform-board-integrity...> regarding the Board Member Integrity Screening was published for public comment <https://www.icann.org/public-comments/board-integrity-screening-2018-03-02-e...>. This public comment proceeding seeks community input on the recommendation that SOs and ACs that do not currently employ a due diligence integrity screening process similar to the Nominating Committee adopt the proposed Uniform Board Member Integrity Screening Process <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposed-uniform-board-integrity...> to conduct due diligence on the candidates selected to serve on the ICANN Board. The commencement of the public comment proceeding was announced <https://www.icann.org/news/blog/public-comment-period-opens-for-board-member...> by Becky Burr, as Chair of the Board Governance Committee. In her blog, Becky advised that “[t]he Board will include this on the agenda for our sessions during ICANN61 with relevant Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees” that that do not currently employ a due diligence integrity screening process similar (or identical to) the Nominating Committee.
