REMINDER: GNSO Chair nominations - Part 2 Each House determines a Candidate - closed
Dear Councillors, Reminder: Part 2 - each House determines a Candidate. http://gnso.icann.org/elections/election-procedures-12oct09.htm This process is closed, Wednesday, 21 October at 23:00 UTC and the result should be announced and sent to the council mailing list and <gnso.secretariat@gnso.icann.org> by Wednesday 21 October 2009 at 23:00 UTC. After council wide nominations are closed, each house will be allowed to select one candidate for GNSO Council Chair from the pool of nominees. A candidate for GNSO Council Chair does not need to be a member of the house selecting the candidate. Should the non voting NCA be elected as chair he/she would be a non-voting chair. Each house must announce their chosen candidate by 21 October 2009 at 23 UTC. The two houses may, separately, select the same candidate from the nominee pool if they so wish. The candidates from each of the houses shall have the opportunity of meeting with Council Members at the GNSO Working Group sessions in Seoul on Saturday morning, 24 October 2009. (Proposed agenda: https://st.icann.org/gnso-council/index.cgi?agenda_24_oct_2009) Kind regards, Glen Glen de Saint Géry GNSO Secretariat gnso.secretariat@gnso.icann.org http://gnso.icann.org
The timing for this second part of the election process does makes it very difficult as most of us are now in the process of travelling to Seoul. At this stage, with the deadline already behind us, may I respectfully suggest that we take up this discussion and process when we all see each other face to face on Saturday in Seoul. I'm sure most of us are planning to either be in Seoul or take part in the GNSO sessions remotely... Safe travels everyone, and see you in Korea. Yes, but it was supposed to resolve before everyone started to travel. though I do know some went early for the educational events.

If that is the earliest estimate, then I guess that is what we will have to deal with. I think it would be best, however, if those in the lead of the SG/ House teams would try to resolve the question before the meetings on Saturday. a.

I suggest that people try to meet in the bars on Friday evening to try and figure out an answer. However, we do have the separate House meetings on Saturday morning, so I hope that both the issue of Chair candidates and Vice-chair elections can be dealt with then. If nothing else, the members of the house can vote at that point and make their choices for the House chair candidate and for the House vice-chair. While deciding by vote is not required, it is not prohibited - and if a consensus can't be reached, a vote does seem like the next best solution. I will attend the NCP House meeting and Chuck will attend the CP House meeting and if an agreed upon procedure has not already been arrived at, I recommend we w attempt to kick off the process. thanks a.
