Non-Contracted Parties House Nomination for Chair X
Hello, I am glad to send this email on behalf of non-contracted parties house to nominate Olga Cavalli for Council Chair. Regards Rafik Twitter: @rafik Linkedin: http://tn.linkedin.com/in/rafikdammak
I completely support this choice and would like to second Olga’s nomination. Don’t know if it is necessary or not, but this comes from my believe that at least for one year Chair must set far from commercial groups. Why is that Andrei? Do you feel Chuck did not act in your best interests over the journey? From my vantage point Chuck was incredibly unbiased. I’d be happy for a Chair (from either house) that gets the job done. There are rules of impartiality that surely steer us away from commercial vs non commercial… Adrian Kinderis From: owner-council@gnso.icann.org [mailto:owner-council@gnso.icann.org] On Behalf Of Andrei Kolesnikov Sent: Thursday, November 11, 2010 5:27 PM To: 'Rafik Dammak'; 'Council GNSO' Subject: RE: [council] Non-Contracted Parties House Nomination for Chair X I completely support this choice and would like to second Olga’s nomination. There is nothing personal, Adrian . Chuck is the best – there is no question!!! But step aside and look at the situation outside of ICANN. If (and I hope!) we are entering new gTLD era people outside won’t care about personalities. They don’t know Chuck. They don’t know you, they don’t know Olga. They will check industries, countries and political groups behind the names. This is unfortunate, but this is how it works. --andrei From: Adrian Kinderis [mailto:adrian@ausregistry.com.au] Sent: Thursday, November 11, 2010 11:51 AM To: Andrei Kolesnikov; 'Rafik Dammak'; 'Council GNSO' Subject: RE: [council] Non-Contracted Parties House Nomination for Chair X Why is that Andrei? Thanks for the comment Andrei. With all due respect to your second of Olga’s nomination, I have some questions that come from my own personal curiosity: Does it really matter whether the interests of a person are commercial or non-commercial? Does the fact that one person’s interests are commercial and another’s are non-commercial make one’s interests more problematic than the other’s? In my opinion, the key is whether a person is able to perform leadership responsibilities in a neutral and fair manner regardless of their interests. In my view, both Olga and Stéphane have demonstrated that they can perform leadership responsibilities in a neutral and fair manner. Yes, I believe this matters. Because the world around us is not as friendly as our community and this is not a matter of person’s interests- commercial or non commercial. I’m talking about perception. Like this “Chuck is a great guy, but he works for Verisign” – do you believe that it was never said behind your back? I know that you working in the internet so many years and your reputation is unquestionable. gNSO members also know it. I respect you and I was saying this openly: you are one of the internet fathers. But the politics is unfair. Again, don’t take it personally guys. I learned that there are some themes which are taboo in gNSO. Sorry to violate one of this. --andrei From: owner-council@gnso.icann.org [mailto:owner-council@gnso.icann.org] On Behalf Of Gomes, Chuck Sent: Thursday, November 11, 2010 4:38 PM To: Andrei Kolesnikov; rafik.dammak@gmail.com; Council GNSO Subject: RE: [council] Non-Contracted Parties House Nomination for Chair X Thanks for the comment Andrei. Thanks for the reply Andrei and for the expressions of respect. I am fully aware that everything I do raises suspicions in some people’s minds and have lived with that for years. I appreciate you referring to me as one of the ‘internet fathers’ but I confess that I am not. My experience and expertise is in the ICANN community and I cannot be credited with anything regarding the Internet except as it relates to ICANN policy efforts.
