Dear Councilors, As you may have seen, a call for experts to study the application of Root Zone Label Generation Rules (RZ-LGR) was recently published here: https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2018-02-08-en The Study Group is seeking technical subject matter experts on IDNs and the RZ-LGR from the SO/ACs, including the GNSO. As indicated in the announcement, participation in the Study Group requires that volunteers have expertise in one or more of the areas below relevant for IDN TLD labels: IDNA2008, RFC 6912 and RFC 7940 Procedure to Develop and Maintain Root Zone Label Generation Rules Script-based RZ-LGR proposal development Technical evaluation for IDN new gTLDs and IDN ccTLDs Unicode security considerations IDN TLD usability challenges It would be appreciated if you all can encourage the respective SG/Cs you represent to have qualified candidates complete the attached form, which collects SG/C affiliation and allows for an explanation of required technical expertise; that form should then be submitted directly to the email address (IDNProgram@icann.org) provided in the announcement. The tentative work plan in the announcement estimates that publication of the Study Group's final report will occur in October. The Study Group is expected to work primarily online and as such, no travel support is provided. Your assistance is greatly appreciated by the IDN Program. If you have any questions, please let me know.
