Update on Status of Policy Status Report on Expiration Policies
Sent on behalf of Leon Grundmann, ICANN org Dear GNSO Councilors, ICANN org would like to report on the progress of the Policy Status Report (PSR) on the Expired Domain Deletion Policy (EDDP) and Expired Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP), as per the GNSO Council’s Resolution<https://gnso.icann.org/en/council/resolutions/2020-current#202406:~:text=an%...> from 12 June 2024: “The GNSO Council requests a Policy Status Report (PSR) for the Expedited [Expired] Domain Deletion Policy (EDDP) and Expedited [Expired] Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP). 1. The GNSO Council notes immediate work is not needed on this PSR and would request either (i) delivery of the PSR or (ii) confirmation that work on the PSR has begun and an updated estimate on when the PSR should be delivered, in one (1) year from the passage of this motion. 2. The GNSO Council leadership directs GNSO Policy Support Staff to notify ICANN org Global Domains & Services of the request for a PSR on the EDDP and ERRP.” ICANN org would like to share with the GNSO Council that the work has not only begun, but has been published for Public Comment for community input. The Public Comment proceeding<https://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/proceeding/psr-on-expired-domain-del...> will be open from Thursday 15 May - Monday 30 June. The PSR examines how both the EDDP and ERRP perform based on three overarching goals: uniformity, clarity, and sufficient notice. The PSR is designed to collect quantitative data, wherever possible, that will contribute to the review processes related to EDDP and ERRP. It supports and evaluates the impact of previously adopted recommendations and consensus policy. Additionally, the PSR may provide a foundation for potential future work on both the EDDP and ERRP, if the GNSO Council deems this to be necessary based on the outcome of the PSR and the next steps. ICANN org will review comments and provide a Public Comment Summary Report within two weeks of the close date of this proceeding (30 June). ICANN org will also work to refine the PSR based on Public Comments received in order to provide additional insight for the GNSO Council for its consideration and potential action. Best regards, Leon Grundmann Policy Research Specialist ICANN org
