Draft IETF "Problem Statement" on Special Use TLDs

Councilors - For those interested, the IETF has recently published a Draft Problem Statement on "Special Use Domain Names". https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-dnsop-sutld-ps/?include_text=1 I believe we, the GNSO and ICANN more broadly, should follow the developing work on this subject. Please feel free to share with your SG/C communities. Thank you, J.

Hi James, Thanks for sharing this, did ICANN receive any notification about this from IETF? I support the idea to follow the work done in that area and I think that is possible submit a comment if it is needed. Best, Rafik 2017-02-15 4:28 GMT+09:00 James M. Bladel <jbladel@godaddy.com>:

FYI: The IETF Working Group Last Call (WGLC) ends on 23 Feb. There will be an IETF last call sometime later before this becomes an informational RFC, and depending on the number of comments and degree of change required in the draft, there could be another WGLC before IETF last call . avri On 14-Feb-17 23:18, Rafik Dammak wrote:

Hi, Another document that may be of interest in this same line is: Title : The ALT Special Use Top Level Domain Authors : Warren Kumari Andrew Sullivan Filename : draft-ietf-dnsop-alt-tld-07.txt Pages : 11 Date : 2017-02-01 Abstract: This document reserves a string (ALT) to be used as a TLD label in non-DNS contexts, or for names that have no meaning in a global context. It also provides advice and guidance to developers developing alternate namespaces. The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-dnsop-alt-tld/ Note that while these are stated as non DNS usage, there is a question of what response DNS gives for these names and the degree to which this bumps up against ICANN's roles and responsibilities as defined in the MOU between the organization. It should also be noted the Draft Problem Statement on "Special Use Domain Names" is currently in IETF DNSOP WG Last Call (WGLC). avri On 14-Feb-17 19:28, James M. Bladel wrote:
