Many thanks for your work on Latin Diacritics PDP. I keep catching up on the ICANN Confluence Wiki.

It is indeed nice that Latin originally used the apex [plural apices] to indicate a long vowel, while medieval scripts introduced many abbreviations for space-saving.

They allow the Latin alphabet to adapt to specific languages without adding entirely new letters. If not available, diacritics are sometimes replaced by combinations (e.g., ae for ä).

The attached image from the above article is very useful.

As you would appreciate, keeping the machine is focus gives many alternative methods of working with the diacritics including the stnadpoint of Indic scripts.
