I agree using auction money for this purpose is worthy. But I was hoping that it would be applicants for auction funds who find innovative ways to set up programs to use the money to help applicants.
As someone excluded (justifiably) from the auction process this year, I have no idea if anyone is doing something like that. I hope so, it is the sort of thing I would have liked to have worked on.
I understand the financial charm of taking money from the auctions pile and putting it into the new gTLD budget. An opportunity to do something worthy and give yourself the money - the essence of so many forms of largess - find a way to reward yourself for generosity - you can have the funds as long as you spend them here.
The cross community WG could have assigned funds to applicant support on future rounds. They didn't. The Board should not do so now.
I still support the Board allocating more funds to applicant support, but I think they have to take the money from a different pile.

I agree that this is the target group, and it is a good use of the money. It is just the process of how they are going about this, which I think is wrong. When they did it to balance the budget, they said it was a one time event, and they would let the others go through the method that the Committee had laid out. I see this is not the case and so was hoping to hear from others and wondering whether we should say anything
