The current grant process is only for this pilot version and for the $10 million that was set aside for this pilot.

The Board will be looking at how they can use some of the remaining funds.

I see that it will be viewed the same as when they took some of the funds to cover a contribution to ICANN's reserve or contingency fund (?)

They'll take it anyway - because they can.

Personally, having been on the Auction proceeds group and the GGP which stated that if there were more funds needed for applicant support than was originally proposed (and going by the amount set aside last time - this was $2 million) then it was up to ICANN to find that extra money. So, they will need to find it from somewhere - and from my POV, the use of auction proceeds for applicant support would mean it would at least be going to those in under-developed and underserved regions who are the priority group for applicant support, and they were the target group for the auction proceeds group as well.
